Programme Objectives
By the end of the session candidates will be able to:
- Explain what common infections may be present within the care environment
- Identify routes of transmissions
- Identify the signs and symptoms of different types of infections
- Describe ways of reducing infections and cross contamination within the care environment
- Describe the principals of “universal precautions” and when they should be applied
- List common forms of PPE available to the carer
- Discuss occasions when service users and carers are at risk from infection and reduction strategies
- Recognise that a service user with an infection still requires to be treated with dignity
