Programme Objectives


By the end of the session candidates will be able to:

  • Explain what common infections may be present within the care environment
  • Identify routes of transmissions
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of different types of infections
  • Describe ways of reducing infections and cross contamination within the care environment
  • Describe the principals of “universal precautions” and when they should be applied
  • List common forms of PPE available to the carer
  • Discuss occasions when service users and carers are at risk from infection and reduction strategies
  • Recognise that a service user with an infection still requires to be treated with dignity
