Raise awareness of the issue of service user who have mental health issues within the care environment.
Programme Objectives
By the end of the session candidates will be able to:
- Identify relevant legislation regards to mental health
- Discuss what mental illness is
- Identify the different forms of mental illness (including Bi Polar, OCD, Eating Disorders, Personality Disorder, Schizophrenia)
- Describe the typical symptoms associated with the different forms of mental illness
- Discuss and explain strategies that may help a person with mental health issues
- Identify sources of assistance available to people with mental health issues
- Discuss and describe the actions to be carried out when a service user is in crisis (crisis sometimes involves violence and you will strictly need to follow your policies and procedures in this situation)
- Discuss types of medication commonly used by service users and the value of CAM (Complimentary and Alternative Medicine)
