Programme Objectives
By the end of the session candidates will be able to:
- State what legislation applies to handling and control of medicines within care environment
- Identify the difference between POMs and NON-POMs
- State who can administer medicines to a service user and under what circumstances
- Describe storage facilities applicable to medicines in the care home
- Discuss strategies for ensuring correct administration and documentation
- State what action to take if a service user refuses medication
- Explain what action to take should an error in administration occur
- Describe action to take with medicines of deseased service users or when a service user leaves a care home
